Toper’s journey began in a modest 33 m² workshop in Izmir in 1954, sparked by the ingenuity and tireless curiosity of Nurettin Karakundakoğlu.
From an early age, Mr. Nurettin devoted himself to building innovative machines that would make production easier and raise quality standards.
His very first success—a coffee grinder—quickly gained attention.
But he didn’t stop there.
With remarkable foresight, he went on to design and build Turkey’s first-ever bulgur mill.
With unwavering support from his wife, Zekiye Hanım, he crafted up to 300 machines annually—many of which, built over six decades ago, are still running today.

This spirit of dedication and collaboration became the foundation of Toper’s family tradition.
By the 1970s, the second generation was already immersed in the production process, either receiving technical training or working side by side in the workshop. In the ’80s, the younger family members pushed boundaries further by conducting research in universities and institutions.
These efforts opened the door to global markets: first Libya, then Yugoslavia in the early ’90s, followed by Romania, the U.S., Canada, and Italy—all drawn by Toper’s consistent innovation and evolving safety and quality standards.
In 1997, Toper cut coffee roasting time down to just 9 minutes through advanced R&D, and began collaborating with Tübitak. By 2001, this partnership had become a regular part of Toper’s research culture, resulting in numerous patents and groundbreaking achievements.
Today, the third generation—skilled in mechanics, automation, international marketing, and business strategy—continues to steer Toper as a leader in coffee processing technology.
According to multiple international research organizations, Toper proudly ranks among the top 10 global brands in coffee roasting as of 2015.
From a small workshop in Izmir to 146 countries across the globe, the light Mr. Nurettin sparked in 1954 still burns bright.
